Thirty years ago, Sue Almy launched a successful write-in campaign, becoming the first Democrat elected to represent her New Hampshire House district. This spring, she stepped down after an extraordinary career, leaving a legacy of legislation addressing addiction, justice, impaired driving, and tobacco prevention. She was also a steadfast advocate for land conservation and affordable housing.
Sue is perhaps best known for her leadership on the House Ways and Means Committee, serving as chair during the great recession and as ranking member throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Her ability to thoughtfully navigate complex fiscal issues while building consensus among committee members earned her deep respect from colleagues on both sides of the aisle.
We are profoundly grateful to Sue for her decades of dedicated public service and the lasting impact she has made on New Hampshire. Thank you, Sue.
