Republicans doth protest too much

Thank you, Kathy Sullivan.

“Republicans doth protest too much – WHY ARE New Hampshire Republicans attacking Democrats who plan on writing in Joe Biden on the state’s Democratic presidential primary ballot?

Democrats could have meekly accepted the DNC’s new rules and ignored the primary. We could have said, it does not really matter anyway, since Biden will win re-nomination with or without New Hampshire. Democrats could have taken the not-unbiased advice of Republicans and stayed home. But we did not.

The effort is the best thing the state’s Democrats could have done to make our side of the primary relevant in a way that no one — the media, the Democratic National Committee, and, especially, the state’s GOP — expected. It has received significant attention from news outlets, not just locally, but across the country. It has received the support of both New Hampshire Democrats and from national Democratic figures from across the party’s ideological spectrum.

That national attention is not only good for the New Hampshire Democratic Party. It is good for the primary.

Republicans would probably respond to this by claiming they are not telling Democrats we should not vote.

“Oh, no,” they would claim, “we aren’t saying don’t vote, we are saying, vote if you want to, but don’t you dare vote for Biden!” Well, with all due respect, we are not going to give the party of Donald Trump veto power over which candidate we support.

Run for Office to Defeat GOP Radical Agenda

State Rep. John Sellers, State Senator Carrie Gendreau and some of their colleagues have given us another reason why we need to be actively involved in preserving our freedoms and democracy, including considering running for office.

Sellers, who represents the 10 towns in Grafton House District 18 stretching from Enfield to Bristol, and Gendreau, who represents several Northern Grafton County towns and Coös County, introduced a radical new effort to strip away a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions by introducing a ban on abortions after just 15 DAYS!

This ban, which would include prison sentences for doctors, would be one of the most extreme in the country. Combined with attacks on the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals and on public schools, Sellers and Gendreau continue to pursue a radical agenda to deny freedom to those who disagree with them, which is the vast majority of Granite Staters.

That’s why we need individuals willing to work hard to challenge Sellers and Gendreau, and their extreme allies. Please consider stepping up to run as a candidate, whether it’s for the State Senate or State House or for an office in the county or your town. Grafton County Democrats and the state party stand ready to assist every candidate at every step of the way. If you have any interest, or even just a question, reach out to Thomas Oppel, Grafton County Democrats vice chair and the chair of our Candidate Recruitment Committee.

If you feel you personal circumstances won’t allow you to run for office this year, we still need you to be willing to walk, to knock on doors to help inform your neighbors and then make sure they turn out to vote.

Protecting our freedom, our democracy, cannot be a spectator sport.

Remembering Phil Preston 12/4/38 – 11/16/23

I’m writing to report the sad news of the passing of former New Hampshire House member Phil Preston on November 16, 2023. Phil represented Grafton House District 8 from 2006-2010
A longtime resident of Ashland, New Hampshire, Phil was a passionate advocate for the protection of New Hampshire’s beauty and natural resources, and was actively involved in a number of conservation groups, including Lakes Region Conservation Trust, Squam Lakes Association and others. Phil was a committed and dedicated House member, and represented his Grafton 8 constituents with compassion, modesty, and humility. He was always ready with a quick smile and a kind word, and was well-respected by his constituents and his colleagues in the House and Senate.

Phil was predeceased by his late wife, Margaret “Peg” Dobbie, a well-known advocate for reproductive freedom, and a former executive director of New Hampshire NARAL. Phil was a long-time member of Plymouth Area Democrats, and a valued friend to many of us in Grafton County and New Hampshire. Phil will be sorely missed.Phil Preston Obituary, (1938 – 2023) – Ashland, NH
